216,000+ Jobs Up for Grabs at DOLE’s Labor Day Job Fairs

MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced they will provide 216,144 employment opportunities at their upcoming Job Day events for Labor Month this year, including more than 34,000 positions abroad.

At the agency’s pre-Labor Day press briefing on Monday, April 28, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma expressed his hope that they could provide more job opportunities than the approximately 235,000 positions offered in 2024.

“Gusto naming mabigyan rin ng malapit sa bilang ng posisyon ng wala sila noong nakaraing taon. At ganoon talaga — lalo na nadadagdag—sigurong tatlumpu’t apat pang araw bago dumating ang Labor Day. Magkakaroon pa kami ng mas dagdag na available na puwersa,” ani niya kay Laguesma.”
It seems like there was an error with attribution in your original statement as “Laguesma” appeared both at the start of sentence and after “ani niya”. I corrected this assuming you wanted another person quoted here rather than repeating the speaker’s name. Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

Across the country, there are 69 locations with 14 of them situated in the National Capital Region. Over 63,000 job opportunities are available in this area.

The majority of job fairs will be held on May 1st. However, a few are planned for April 29th and 30th, as well as May 2nd.

The primary location for the job fair will be the SMX Convention Center, with timings from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Most of the events will take place in shopping centers.

“Very fortunate for us since we have partner malls known for keeping job seekers out of direct sunlight or protecting them from environmental factors, so they don’t get exhausted,” Laguesma stated.

In February, more Filipinos secured employment and obtained better-quality jobs. The unemployment rate in the Philippines dropped to 3.8 percent in February, down from 4.3 percent the previous month.

Unemployment and underemployment rates decline in February

At the same time, the underemployment rate dropped to 10.1 percent from 13.3 percent in January.

A significant level of underemployment is typically viewed as an indication that the employment opportunities at hand are not up to par in terms of quality.
