The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has set up job fair sites across the country offering 250,000 jobs in celebration of Labor Day.
“Meron po tayong 69 job fair sites sa buong bansa po,” DOLE Bureau of Local Employment head Assistant Secretary Patrick P. Patriwirawan Jr. told Unang Balita in an interview Thursday.
(We have 69 job fair sites nationwide.)
“Inaanyayahan po natin ang mga kababayan natin bisitahin ang mga job fair sites na po ito na nag-o-offer na po ng 250,000 po na vacancies para po sa ating mga job seekers at kababayan,” he added.
(We invite our countrymen to visit these job fair sites which are already offering 250,000 vacancies for our job seekers and countrymen.)
Earlier,
DOLE
said the main job fair venue will be at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
Applicants are advised to reach out to their nearest Public Employment Services Office (PESO) or DOLE regional or field offices to access the full list of venues, participating employers, and available job roles.
Participating
job seekers
can expect vacancies from the industries of manufacturing, retail, BPO, accommodation/food service activities, and financial/insurance, DOLE said.
According to DOLE, prominent job openings encompass roles such as production operatives, retail associates, call center agents, customer service staff, and microfinance specialists.
Other participating employers include Globe, LBC Express, Asia Brewery, Inc., Puregold, and other legitimate human resource agencies nationwide.
Hired-on-the-spot
In the meantime, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma expressed optimism that around 25% to 30% of the jobseekers would secure employment immediately during the national Labor Day career expos.
“Hopefully, even 25% to 30% of them will be hired, and many more can become near hires. Because those who are almost hired probably only need to meet a few additional requirements. We’ll follow through with this since it’s our instruction to our field offices,” Laguesma told reporters.
(Our aim is for at least 25-30% to secure immediate employment with several others being close to getting an offer. Being close to hiring indicates that they just have to meet certain conditions. We’ve asked our local branches to provide assistance to these candidates.)
“What’s missing? So we can help them,” he said.
(We aim to understand their requirements so we can assist them effectively.)
By 10:30 a.m., according to information from the DOLE monitoring center, approximately 852 job seekers had preregistered for the job fair at the SMX Convention Center, with 273 people showing up.
A minimum of 27 individuals were directly offered jobs, among them being 19-year-old Daniel Ramos, who applied for a position as a grocery bagger.
“Fine lang po iyan pero medyo overwhelming dahil una akong gumawa ng application…Ang bilis ng prosesong yan at simple lamang ang nagawang hakbang,” ani Ramos.
The experience was decent. It felt overwhelming as it was my inaugural time at a job fair, however, the procedure turned out to be quick and simple.
