Manila Launches Skills-Based Job Training Initiative

The Manila city administration declared on Friday that they will introduce advanced training initiatives aimed at out-of-school youths, students currently enrolled, women, individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as household leaders who seek sustainable employment options based on specific skills.

The aim behind this project is to offer long-lasting income opportunities for the underprivileged communities within the city, moving past transient support systems like what Tupad provides.

The city plans to introduce various livelihood and skill development initiatives, including Tourist Guide Training for tricycle drivers (TODA), First Aid and Rescue Training for young groups, and Caregiver Training for community members interested in working and learning. The training materials are prepared and set for implementation.

The Department of Tourism will spearhead the tourist guide training program. Concurrently, the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine General Hospital, together with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), will be responsible for conducting the first aid and rescue courses. Meanwhile, Tesda will manage the caregiver training initiatives.

Undergraduates studying accountancy, finance, and commerce will have access to Bookkeeping and Tax Technician training. This program will include value formation and ethics education to make sure students become both competent and ethical professionals ready for employment.

Multiple national agencies have already set aside funds for these initiatives. Supported by the representatives from Manila in Congress along with their affiliated party-list organizations, the local government will offer participants, locations, and logistical assistance to guarantee that the training takes place within the city limits.
