WRKPOD Inc., an Australian company based in the Philippines, is celebrating a major milestone for having generated 1,000 full-time jobs for Filipino professionals hired by international employers.
In a press conference in this capital city on Friday, James Thompson, WrkPod executive director, said it is a feat to fill 1,000 desks in all of its sites in Negros Oriental, Cebu, and Bacolod City in Negros Occidental.
Thompson said thousands of families have benefited from the jobs that WrkPod has provided for Filipinos over the years as the company grew its business.
“For every one person hired, at least 20 people benefit from it,” he said.
WrkPod has three sites in Negros Oriental two here, one in Tanjay City, one in Cebu and another in Bacolod City.
One of the two Dumaguete headquarters has the largest workforce of about 700 desks.
Meriane Yucor, the company’s executive director, said it is “a great pride for the Philippines that we’ve been chosen” by WrkPod’s foreign clients to hire employees directly.
She said they are thankful that over three years, WrkPod has filled a thousand desks, with the majority of the employees coming from Negros Oriental.
Their clients are from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
WrkPod acts as a “bridge” to directly connect skilled professionals to these clients who “rent” desks/spaces from the former.
A wide range of services are offered to international clients, with continuous hiring for lawyers, communications specialists, engineers, construction experts, bookkeepers, and many others.
Employees are recruited, trained, interviewed and hired by WrkPod based on the needs of clients, but the overseas companies pay the wages and other benefits directly to the employees.
WrkPod earns from the service fees and space rentals from its international clients.
Meanwhile, WrkPod’s latest site at the new building of the Perpetual Help Community Cooperative Inc. (PHCCI) here will be operational by the end of this month.
Thompson said 700 desks will be initially available, but they hope to fill 1,000 desks by the end of the year.
WrkPod targets 10,000 desks by 2028 at the earliest, with other expansion sites in mind.
