Bulusan Volcano logs 69 volcanic earthquakes

Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon had 69 volcanic earthquakes on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

Of this number, 42 were volcanic tremors lasting from one to 16 minutes long, PHIVOLCS said in its bulletin issued Sunday.

It also said 1,103 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were emitted by Bulusan Volcano on Saturday.

Obscured volcanic plumes were also observed.

PHIVOLCS said the volcano’s edifice remains inflated.

Alert Level 1 (Low-level unrest) remains in effect at Bulusan Volcano on Saturday, it said.

PHIVOLCS reminded the public that entry into the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone is not allowed.

Likewise, flying aircraft close to the volcano is prohibited.

PHIVOLCS said Bulusan Volcano may have sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.

which caused ashfall in some towns.
