Gov’t task force to convene on road safety rules for buses, other PUVs —LTFRB

The special task force that will review policies and procedures on road safety is scheduled to convene next week, Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board Chair Teofilo Guadiz said Wednesday.

The task force is composed of the Department of Transportation, the LTFRB, and the Land Transportation Office.

“We will convene next week. After, we will be talking to the bus operators… And then from there, we will set parameters po for the standards on road safety and standard ng mga terminal,” Guadiz told GMA Integrated News.

But he emphasized that there is no need for new policies.

“Hindi naman new rules kundi old rules na dapat tinutupad nila. Like one, dashcam. Number two, fire extinguisher sa mga buses, wala. And then number three, protocol po diyan is dapat po yung mga buses are equipped with adequate equipment,” Guadiz said.

(New rules are not needed; it’s the old rules that must be followed. Like one, dashcam. Number two, there are no fire extinguishers in buses. And number three, it’s protocol that buses must be equipped with adequate equipment.)

DOTR Memorandum Circular 2017-011 requires public utility vehicles to be equipped with fire extinguishers, and selected PUVs to install CCTVs.

The LTFRB also called on public utility vehicle drivers to always drive responsibly.

“Sa ating mga drivers, dapat konting pag-iingat dahil nakasalalay po yung safety ng ating commuters,” LTFRB Board Member Engr Isagani Victorio said.

(To our drivers: drive with care because the safety of our commuters depends on it.)
