Lady Spikers tame Golden Tigresses to take Final Four bonus

MANILA, Philippines — De La Salle University edged out University of Santo Tomas in a thrilling four-set match, 23-25, 25-20, 30-28, 29-27, to secure a twice-to-beat advantage in Final Four of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Angel Canino delivered an impressive triple-double performance with 24 points, 10 excellent digs, and 12 excellent receptions, leading the Lady Spikers to victory.

The Lady Spikers will face UST again in the playoff round, seeking to return to the Finals after settling for bronze in Season 86.

Canino’s clutch plays and composure proved crucial, particularly in the intense third set that lasted 43 minutes, where she scored the winning point via a run and gun, 30-28.

In the fourth set, UST initially led 22-17, but La Salle mounted a comeback, tying the set at 22-all. Shevana Laput and Lilay Del Castillo sealed the win for La Salle with 29-27, giving them the twice-to-beat advantage.
