MAPÚA University has launched microcredential programs aimed at helping Filipinos thrive in the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is marked by groundbreaking technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, blockchain, and 3D printing.
With changing industry needs and technological advancements reshaping employment sectors, concise, targeted programs can enhance career growth and prepare individuals for the future.
Microcredentials refer to brief courses or modules that allow experts to enhance their abilities and knowledge.
Engineer Rosette Eira Camus, who leads the Mapúa’s Innovation and Development Office for Career Advancement and Lifelong Learning (idCALL), highlighted that over the coming half-decade, enhancing skills through additional training will be vital due to ongoing changes in technology reshaping jobs. This shift underscores how essential it will be for people to maintain relevance and competitiveness within their professions.
Camus clarified that the microcredentials and training programs aim at imparting specific skills and closely match what employers require, highlighting various capabilities like proficiency in cutting-edge technologies, sector-specific expertise, along with transferrable or interpersonal abilities.
Mapúa teams up with industry partners to craft programs like its postgraduate certificate in cybersecurity, scheduled to launch in July. This particular certification has been jointly developed with EC-Council, a global provider of cybersecurity services.
The courses can be accessed through multiple formats, including online, in-person, and blended learning, across various fields of study or departments.
Students have the option to select microcredentials from one of the seven idCALL academies, covering areas such as project management, cybersecurity, design for manufacturing and assembly, languages including Japanese, Korean, French, Mandarin, English, with Spanish coming up shortly, along with fields like data science, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation.
The standard curriculum encompasses fields such as engineering, information technology, business administration, communications, finance, safety studies, multimedia, graphic design, and training and development.
Mapúa students who enroll can also obtain microcredentials as they finish their degree programs.
Through its Curriculum Integrated Programs (CIP), the institution offers specialized courses in Cisco technology and safety that are included as part of the standard curriculum. Additionally, students have the option to take language courses that count towards their Student Global Experience credits, or they may opt for public training courses aimed at enhancing their skills and preparing them for their future careers.
Mapúa is providing an “Introduction to Generative AI” program from April until May 31st. This course caters to teachers, industry experts, learners, or simply those intrigued by what artificial intelligence can do and how it shapes our world. Whether you have previous knowledge of AI systems or not, this class aims to introduce the fundamentals as well as advanced features of generative AI technologies like large language models (LLMs). Additionally, we’ll delve into real-world uses across different sectors and discuss moral aspects alongside promoting ethical handling practices for these tools.
