The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) will be on full alert for the upcoming May 12, 2025 midterm national and local elections.
In a news release on Saturday, Meralco said its crews and personnel are already on standby to ensure stable and reliable service in over 3,000 polling precincts, canvassing centers and vital election sites located across the franchise area throughout the election period.
The power distributor said its crews, as well as over 160 generator sets and 470 floodlights, are set to be deployed in strategic areas to ensure prompt response to possible electricity service concerns.
The company added it has inspected schools that will be used as polling precincts well ahead of the election day. Maintenance and upgrading activities have also been conducted to make sure that Meralco’s distribution network and facilities are in good condition.
“Historically, Meralco’s franchise has had no major troubles during elections. Nonetheless, we have put in place contingency measures in case of isolated outages or service interruptions,” said Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga.
“Our personnel across the organization will be ready to respond 24/7, with our crews strategically positioned across our franchise area and our customer care group on standby for the immediate resolution of any electricity-related trouble before, during, and after the elections,” said Zaldarriaga.
The Meralco official reiterated the company’s call to the public to avoid flying kites near power lines as this could cause service interruptions.
“In addition, we would like to remind those manning polling precincts to refrain from bringing additional appliances such as rice cookers and electric fans to avoid overloading of facilities that could also affect electricity service,” said Zaldarriaga.
Since last year, Meralco said it has been actively coordinating with the Commission on Elections, Department of Energy, and other energy industry stakeholders to ensure readiness for the midterm polls.
