Over 170,000 Jobs Up for Grabs at Labor Day Job Fairs in the Philippines

Around 170,000 employment opportunities, including those abroad, will be presented to Filipinos through job expos scheduled at more than 70 locations nationwide this Labor Day weekend, according to an announcement made by a high-ranking DOLE officer on Sunday.

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma stated that around 2,000 employers will participate in these job fairs, which will take place in collaboration with shopping mall operators nationwide.

He said during an interview with GMA Super Radyo DZBB that this might still be enhanced since we have three additional days before the observance of Labor Day,

“I invite all our unemployed job seekers, as well as those who have jobs but wish for better opportunities, maybe positions with higher pay or benefits, to check out the various job fair sites which can offer them improved roles and enhanced perks,” he further stated.

(I’m extending an invitation to all job seekers, including those who are currently without employment as well as those who are already working but might be interested in exploring whether the opportunities at the upcoming job fair could offer superior roles or enhanced benefits.)

Laguesma mentioned that recent job fairs saw immediate hiring instances — around 100 in Malolos, Bulacan last Friday; 128 in Dagupan on the same day, and 170 in Pampanga.

Latest data
Data provided by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) indicate that there were 1.94 million unemployed Filipinos aged 15 and older in February. This figure is greater than the 1.80 million who were without jobs in February last year, yet it is less than the 2.16 million recorded in January.

During that period, there were 49.15 million working Filipinos, which corresponds to an employment rate of 96.2%. Among these workers, 4.86 million reported being underemployed—they indicated they wanted more hours at their current jobs or sought additional employment opportunities with extended working hours.
