MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-nine kilos of shabu valued at P197.2 million were confiscated by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Parañaque City on Saturday.
The illegal drugs, which were stashed in aluminum foil packs labeled as “freeze-dried durian,” were confiscated from two alleged shabu dealers whom the PDEA identified only as Jalil and Gracia.
Anti-narcotics agents who posed as buyers met with the suspects in an exclusive subdivision in Barangay BF Homes at around 5 p.m.
According to the PDEA, the suspects took advantage of the subdivision’s strict security protocols to avoid being detected by law enforcers.
However, PDEA intelligence operatives managed to conduct surveillance operations, which validated the suspects’ involvement in large-scale distribution of illegal drugs.
The suspects were apprehended after they received bundles of marked money from PDEA agents in exchange for several kilos of shabu.
The suspects’ cell phones were also confiscated by police for leads on their associates.
Charges of drug trafficking will be filed against the suspects.
Meanwhile, a 36-year-old woman was arrested for alleged possession of P1.53 million worth of shabu in Quezon City on Saturday night.
Around 225 grams of shabu were recovered from alias Julie, of Rodriguez in Rizal, who was collared in Barangay Batasan Hills at 11:45 p.m., Quezon City Police District officer-in-charge Col. Randy Glenn Silvio said.
Julie reportedly accepted P30,000 in marked money for a pack of shabu.
Police said they launched the anti-narcotics operation against Julie following information that she was allegedly pushing drugs.
A background investigation showed that the suspect had drug-related cases in 2021 and 2022.
