Woman, 46, killed and several injured after SUV ploughs into crowd in city centre

A woman, 46, has been killed and several injured after a car drove into a group of people in the southwestern
German
city of Stuttgart.

At around 5.50pm, a black Mercedes G-Class left the street and drove into at least eight people outside above-ground Olgaeck train station.

One person required CPR. Among the injured was a ‘mother with a pram’,
RTL Deutschland
reported.

A woman, among three seriously injured people taken to the hospital, later died this evening.

The driver of the van, 42, has been arrested. He was not injured.

Whether it was an accident or deliberate is unclear.

Fire officials on X initially described it as a ‘traffic accident’.

A police spokesperson said: ‘We are currently assuming it was an accident, but are investigating all avenues.’

Traffic restrictions are in place in the city centre. Charlottenstrasse is closed between Charlottenplatz and Alexanderstrasse.
